As a painter Justin Augspurg incorporates quotation and appropriation from a variety of sources, both historical and popular. His paintings are dense images that display a deep involvement with color, shape, and space.
Augspurg's remembrances from art history, urban vandalism, and popular image culture compete with one another on the canvas for viability. Despite the often candy-like pallet, the pictures often carry a melancholy or dark humor.
Justin Augspurg holds a BFA from the Maryland Institute Collage of Art, and a MFA from the University of New Hampshire. He lives in Chelsea and works in East Boston.
